Hello and welcome to "Sanskriti '08"

The event starts off with cultural exhibition in the Union Courtyard from 11am to 1pm, followed by Cultural Show at Forum Hall from 2pm to 4pm and ends with Indian food for dinner at Rathbone from 6pm to 8pm.

Cultural Exhibition

  • Art, Paint and Sculpture exhibits - The rich and cultural diversity of India will be on display in the form of artifacts, paintings, traditional dresses, musical instruments invented hundreds of centuries ago.
  • Rangoli - A colorful design called a Rangoli is made near the entrance to a house to welcome guests. Traditionally they are painted or created out of colored sand/rice powder. A symmetrical design or picture is drawn and colored rice powder/sand is then layered on top to form a picture.

Cultural Show

India has always been a patron of arts and culture. In the cultural show you will be treated to a variety of programs, which represent India in various forms ranging from movies to a common man's life to the richness of our culture.

Some of the attractions are:

  • Folk Dance forms - Be ready to witness various dance forms like Bharatnatyam, Bhangra and
  • Fashion show
  • Musical performances

The most enduring part of Indian culture is the taste of cuisine that sends mouth watering from miles away. If you haven't tasted Indian cuisine then you have not yet tasted the best food in the world.

  • Gobi Manchurian
    Cauliflower Fritters in spicy sweet and sour sauce. A delicious blend of Indo- Chinese cooking, which has been Indianized by local folks to satisfy the taste buds of those who crave for something spicy. Serves as an appetizer as well as a side dish
  • Samosa
    Delightful tasty little savory patties that are one of India’s great gifts to the world. Always appetizing. Can be served with tea and they form the basis of the perfect snack and a perfect starter.
  • Paneer Butter Masala
    Paneer Butter Masala is delicious Punjabi recipe .It is an Indian cheese dish made with a buttery, silky tomato sauce and spices, flavored with pleasantly bitter dry fenugreek leaves and further enriched with cashew nut paste. It is one of the most popular main course food items in Indian restaurants.
  • Navaratan Kurma
    one dish which stands out is the Nine Gems Kurma also called the "Navaratna Kurma". This dish is a combination of flavour, richness & simplicity. The blend of vegetables with fruits in a rich broth makes this extra special.
  • Chicken curry
    An easy solution for a curry craving. Simple chicken salad seasoned with a spicy curry sauce. This is an adaptation of yellow chicken curry from India. The aromas and flavors are a delight to the senses! It is best served with fresh Naan bread or Basmati rice (Vegetable Biryani).
  • Naan
    white flour flat bread from India, is traditionally made in a brick and clay tandoor oven. Goes good with Chicken curry or Vegetarian curry.
  • Vegetable Biryan
    Basmati rice lightly fried with cumin, cloves and onion, then simmered with garam masala, chili powder and mixed vegetables. ' Just the ultimate main course. One of the most favoured Indian dishes.
  • Kheer
    This creamy rice pudding is delicately flavored with cardamom and full of nuts. A great dessert for anytime of the year.

  • Admission: Tickets sold at the Union food court from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm from 17th November
  • Ticket price is $5.00 for members and $10.00 for non-members
